Study Methodology
Panel of 50 properties, measurement tools, selection criteria, and regions represented.
Methodology
This study was conducted in February 2026 by Filix Agency. EcoIndex analyses were performed via the official ecoindex.fr tool on each property's homepage. For sites inaccessible via EcoIndex (JavaScript blocking, SPA architecture), the WebsiteCarbon tool was used as complement. Google Lighthouse scores were measured via Chrome DevTools in desktop and mobile modes for properties that underwent detailed audits.
The panel of 50 properties was constituted based on objective criteria:
- Presence of a recognized environmental label: Clef Verte (20 properties), EU Ecolabel (12), Green Globe (2), ECOCERT (1), HQE (1)
- Publicly displayed environmental commitment on the property's website
- Claimed eco-responsible positioning in marketing communications
The study covers the entire French territory and different accommodation categories: palaces, 5-star hotels, Relais & Châteaux, boutique hotels, eco-lodges, wine estates, thalassotherapy centers, unique accommodations, urban hotels.
Regions represented
Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Brittany, Île-de-France (Paris), Savoie and Haute-Savoie, Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Bordeaux, Basque Country), Corsica, Loire Valley, Occitanie, Picardy (Bay of the Somme), Champagne, Normandy, Loire Country.
The EcoIndex scale
EcoIndex evaluates a web page's environmental footprint on three criteria: page weight (amount of data transferred), DOM complexity (number of elements in source code), and number of HTTP requests. The score ranges from 0 to 100, with a grading scale from A (best) to G (worst). For each analyzed page, the tool calculates an estimate of water consumption (in liters) and CO2 emissions (in grams) per 1,000 visits.
EcoIndex grade table
| Grade | Score | Interpretation | |-------|-------|---------------| | A | 76-100 | Excellent — exemplary site | | B | 66-75 | Very good — performant site | | C | 56-65 | Good — room for improvement | | D | 46-55 | Average — optimization needed | | E | 26-45 | Poor — significant effort required | | F | 11-25 | Bad — redesign recommended | | G | 0-10 | Critical — maximum environmental impact |
About Filix Agency
Filix Agency is an eco-designed web development studio based in Savoie, France, specialized in premium hospitality and sustainable tourism. We design performant, lightweight, and aesthetic websites that align our clients' digital image with their genuine environmental commitment.
Our approach: sites under 1 MB per page, an EcoIndex score of A or B, loading time under 2 seconds, hosted on infrastructure powered by renewable energy — without compromising on design or user experience.
We support independent hotels, eco-lodges, wine estates, and Relais & Châteaux in creating websites that convert, respect the environment, and tell the same story as their property: that of a place that cares for its surroundings, from the first click to the stay.
